Musica Theologica Bible Translation
1 Timothy
1:1-2
From: Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus- by the command of God, who is our savior and Christ Jesus who is our hope.
To:
Timothy, my true child in the faith.
Joy, Mercy, and Peace from God, the Father, and Christ Jesus the lord
1:3-7
Just as encouraged when I was going into Macedonia, remain in Ephesus in order to command others not to teach different teachings[1][2], nor to focus on myths or endless genealogies; which perpetuates useless debates rather than God’s agenda in faith. The purpose of this command is love from a pure heart and a good conscience, and a genuine faith. Those who deviate, turning aside into empty talk, want to be teachers of the law[3] but they do not know what they are saying or what they are insisting on.
1:8-11
But we know the law is beautiful[4], if someone is using it properly. We know this because the law does not exist for the righteous, but the lawless and disobedient, non-worshipers and sinners, impure[5] and polluted, dad-killers and mom-killers, murderers, sexually promiscuous, homosexuals, slave traders, liars, and perjurers; and if it is something else contrary to the correct teaching- according to the gospel of the glory of God which I, Paul, was trusted with.
1:12-17
I have thanks for Christ Jesus our lord who strengthened me. Because he considered me trustworthy[6], having setting me aside for service. Previously I was being a God-slander, persecutor, and antagonist. But(!) I was shown compassion because I acted ignorantly in unbelief. Even more, grace flooded with faith and love in Christ Jesus. This word[7] is faithful and worthy of full acceptance, that: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners- of which I, Paul, am still first. But(!) through this I was shown compassion so that in me, as an example, Christ Jesus might demonstrate total patience, for me to be an outline for those ready to believe upon him for eternal life. So, to the King of eternity- immortal, invisible, the only God,[8] to him be honor and glory into eternity forever! Amen[9].
1:18-20 Timothy my child, According to the prophecies previously made about you, I am entrusting you with this command so that in them[10] you might fight as a good solider[11] holding to faith and a good conscience[12], and some who having rejected[13] that which concerns the faith, these have shipwrecked! Among those is Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered over to the adversary[14][15] so that they might be disciplined to not slander(God).
2:1-7
Therefore…
First of all, I urge[16] that you yourselves make requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings (to God) for all men (and women), for kings, and all who are in authority, so that we lead a tranquil and quiet[17] life in all godliness and purity. This is good and acceptable in light[18] of our God- who wants all men (and women) to come to a correct knowledge of truth. For there is one God and one mediator of God and of men (and women) – the man Christ Jesus who gave himself as a ransom for all, (and is) the witness in his own time[19]. For this I was set aside[20] as a herald and an apostle (delegate), I am speaking the truth- I am not lying, (and a) teacher of gentiles (non-Jews) in trust[21] and truth.
2:8-15 Therefore…
I want men, in all places, to pray lifting up holy hands without anger and dissention. Likewise, (I want) women to order themselves in orderly attire with restraint and self-control; not in braids and gold, or pearls, or expensive clothing. Rather, (with) what is fitting for women professing godliness- (that is) with good works. Let(!) a woman learn in quietness[22] and in all submissiveness, but I do not permit a woman to teach nor dominate man. Rather, she is to be quiet[23].
